iMapData Provides Department of Homeland Security With
Real-Time Situational Awareness

McLean, VA – March 13, 2008 – iMapData Inc., a leading provider of geo-economic analysis and custom decision support solutions, recently participated in a demonstration to reinforce the nation’s integrated response capabilities in the event of disasters, emergencies, and terrorist activities. The demonstration was organized by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Office of National Capital Region Coordination (NCRC) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Held March 6, Winter Blast simulated mass-casualty events in Philadelphia, PA; Washington, D.C.; and San Antonio, TX. The focus was on electronically validating Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201 interoperable credentials issued from multiple jurisdictions. The targeted population included Federal and Mutual Aid healthcare, emergency support function, and essential government emergency response officials.

During the demonstration, iMapData provided officials at 13 emergency operations centers (EOCs) with near real-time human resource situational awareness, displaying critical data in interactive maps and reports.

Using iMapData’s Web-based service, EOC officials could:

  • Visually identify when and where emergency response officials entered and exited demonstration locations
  • Validate emergency response officials’ identities and skill sets
  • Electronically account for all participants for post-event reconstruction

Incident scene commanders could grant medical emergency response officials access to secure areas immediately, instead of waiting for their out-of-area credentials to be confirmed, and dispatch them more effectively based on validated skill sets.

"We are honored to be the only provider of real-time situational awareness and geospatial data invited to participate in this demonstration," said Larry DeFranco, President and CEO of iMapData. "If disaster strikes, we are proud that our service can help ensure that credentialed healthcare providers can quickly and effectively begin helping those in need."
