iMapData Helps DHS and City of Tampa Prepare for Hurricane Season,
Super Bowl XLIII

McLean, VA – May 20, 2008 – iMapData Inc., a leading provider of web-based solutions that capitalize on the company's geo-referenced data and problem solving expertise, recently participated in Spring Blitz, the latest in a series of demonstrations coordinated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reinforce the nation’s integrated response capabilities in the event of disasters, emergencies, and terrorist activities.

Hosted by Tampa Fire Rescue in Tampa, FL, the May 15 demonstration simulated two events: a Category 3 hurricane and an incident at the Super Bowl™. Participants included the National Football League, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The simulations were designed to help government officials prepare for the upcoming hurricane season and for Super Bowl XLIII in 2009. The focus was on electronically validating Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201-interoperable credentials issued to emergency response officials by multiple jurisdictions.

During the demonstration, iMapData® provided officials with near real-time human resource situational awareness, displaying critical data in interactive maps and reports. iMapData’s web-based solution enabled officials to:

  • Visually identify when and where participants entered & exited demonstration locations
  • Validate emergency response officials’ identities and skill sets
  • Electronically account for all participants for post-event reconstruction

Incident scene commanders could grant emergency response officials access to secure areas immediately, instead of waiting for out-of-area credentials to be confirmed, and dispatch them more effectively based on validated skill sets.

"We are pleased that DHS again invited us to play a key role in demonstrating the First Responder Authentication Credential (FRAC)," said Larry DeFranco, iMapData President and CEO. "As previous tragedies have taught us, empowering responders with vital information and a common operating picture is critical."
