Situational Awareness

Department of Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security sought iMapData’s assistance for a series of demonstrations to reinforce the nation’s integrated emergency response capabilities.

Designed to validate the First Responder Authentication Credential (FRAC) - a high-tech ID card developed in response to the attacks of September 11 - the demonstrations needed to provide participants with real-time situational awareness and a common operating picture.

iMapData delivered a web-based solution which displays critical data from electronic card readers and proprietary sources in interactive maps and reports.

Officials at multiple locations can:

  • Visually identify when and where participants enter and exit event locations
  • Access responders’ contact information and validate their identities and skill sets in real time
  • Identify any special skills, such as Hazmat training, to aid an effective response
  • Immediately access critical infrastructure data
  • Electronically account for all participants for post-event reconstruction

The enhanced situational awareness provided by iMapData enables incident scene commanders to be more efficient & effective. They can grant legitimate responders access to secure areas immediately & dispatch them more quickly based on validated skill sets.
